5 Ways to Boost your Immune System during COVID-19 & Flu Season

5 simple ways to boost your immune health to help fight against COVID-19 and to avoid getting sick during the winter months!

1) Aim to get between 7-9 hours of sleep a night

- easier said than done, but is monumental to preserving a healthy immune system and a properly functioning body. Getting enough sleep is one of the pillars of cultivating a healthy and vital life.

2) Eat immune boosting foods:

- tumeric

- lemons

- cook with garlic

- antioxidants (colorful fruits & veggies)

- dark, leafy greens

- ginger

- cook with spices

- vitamin C rich foods (oranges, broccoli)

3) Try to get exercise everyday, even if it is just a 20 minute walk

- Our bodies are not meant to sit at a desk all day- we are born to be active! Exercise is proven to prevent disease and preserve bodily functions. Even in the cold winter, fresh air and vitamin D will help prevent getting sick.

4) Manage your stress & keep your mind happy

- The more stressed you are, the more you will get sick. Many studies done by the Cleveland Clinic prove that positive thoughts reduce stress and inflammation which builds you resistance to infection. Diet & excercise is not everything- if your mental health is suffering, you are not living a true, healthy lifestyle.

5) Wipe down your phone and other electronic surfaces often

- These days, washing your hands often is a given. However, many people forget to clean their phones & laptops. Your phone goes with you everywhere, and your fingers are constantly on the screen. Think of how many germs build up everyday! Many studies have proved that the screen on your phone contains more germs that a public toilet bowl! Make cleaning your electronics a part of your daily routine!
